Data Barrage

On a personal note I have a doctor appointment that will have me away from the PC for a large chunk of the day. And as I am a modern day Luddite I do not hang out at Starbucks or other hot spots with my laptop. In fact I dont own one and I only frequent Starbucks at the I 95 rest stops between here and Richmond Va.

So this will be abbreviated. The only  significant note in the data this morning was the huge jump in claims from a revised 306 K to 375K. A labor departmentspokesman is cited in a Bloomberg story as noting that the MLK holiday might have contributed to seasonal adjustment problems. I am not sure why. The number was probably too low before and it is probably too high now.
