Larry Kantor of Barclays (if I recall correctly) was on Bloomberg arguing for a strong cyclical bounce overlaid on a secular downtrend, so GDP goes up here in the next couple quarters then hits more problems. There are also pundits noting that the actual spending part of the stimulus is just starting. I’m also hearing a lot about lower consumption and higher savings being a drag on the economy, but not much about the flip side of savings: lower mortgage and loan rates.
I suppose the real cure as usual, is investment spending, be it by corporations or the government. Preferably corporations, given a nudge by the government.
