Question
Has Bernanke ever been asked if the FED has ever bought equities ( stock , index, futures etc)? Anyway of seeing the composition of the FED balance sheet?
The reason I ask, is that I think in the QE theoretical papers, BB says the FED could buy Treasuries,MBS corporate debt or even equities.
Also there seems to always an aggressive buyer when the SP is down.

semantics – if they are not doing it directly by the technical definition, they are doing it through PD’s and Investment Banks via easy-money carry trade. Treasuries on net haven’t done much since the dawn of Q/E, but look at mtgs and equities.

I partially agree. If FED is active in Equities it characterizes the market differently than just people encouraged to buy.
FED has more power, no mark to market issues.

All I know is that when the Fed says they will use any and all available tools to support…then you should not fade them. Not initially anyway.
